During a weekend interview, comedian Jerry Seinfeld attacked the extreme left, accusing one specific group of eliminating comedy on television and in movies.
During a visit to David Remnick’s “The New Yorker Radio Hour,” Seinfeld stated that, up until now, nothing has truly affected comedy. This is because of left-wing performers.
“They do not receive it, and they need it so desperately,” he remarked. “Back then, most people would head home after work, saying something like, Alright, let us toast.” I see. “M*A*S*H” is on. “Mary Tyler Moore” is on now, I see. It is “Everyone in the Family.” You just anticipated that tonight would offer some humorous TV content.
“Well, surprise! Where is it? He blamed the far left, P.C. nonsense, and people’s excessive concern over upsetting others. “Now that we are unmonitored, they will see stand-up comedy.” We are watched by the crowd. We can see when we have strayed. We quickly become aware of it and adapt.
“But here’s what we thought about this comedy: when you write a script and it ends up in four or five different hands—committees, groups—” he said. “Well, your comedic career is over.”
In an interview with GQ, he further stated that movies are no longer “the pinnacle in the social and cultural hierarchy” and that the film industry is “gone.”
After talking about his feature film “Unfrosted,” he brought up the subject, stating that although he was impressed by the commitment of those making movies, the business was still in its death stages.
Though it was nothing like the way these folks operate, I believed I had done some pretty great stuff. They really are that serious! They are unaware that the film industry is no longer in operation. They are clueless,” he remarked.
“Film no longer holds the highest position in the social and cultural order as it did for the majority of our lives. If a new film was good, we would all go watch it when it came out. We all spoke about it. We paraphrased our favorite passages and moments. We are just trying to see now that we are wading through a firehose of water,” he said.
The renowned comedian said that in the film industry, “disorientation” and “confusion” had taken the role of movies.
