A new poll shows that almost two-thirds of American Jews think that Trump is for Israel. However, 62% of American Jews still plan to vote for VP Kamala Harris.
The poll, which was part of a bigger survey of American adults that took place over about six weeks, shows that American Jews are very loyal to the Dem Party. This loyalty doesn’t seem to change even when issues affect the Jewish community.
According to the Forward, Harris is “struggling” with American Jews. Her 62% support “would be well below what President Biden received in 2020 (68% or 77%, depending on which poll you believe) and Hillary Clinton’s Jewish backing in 2016 (about 70%).“ Several separate, neutral polls of Jewish voters have found the same thing: Trump would get 31% of the Jewish vote.
So, Trump has the best chance of getting more Jewish votes than any Republican since Ronald Reagan in 1980.
Even a small change in the number of Jewish voters could make a difference this year in swing states such as Pennsylvania, where the Jewish governor, Josh Shapiro, was not selected as Harris’s running mate to please Democrats who are against Israel.
Trump will still lose the Jewish vote by a large amount, which will make him very unhappy.
The reason might be in the poll’s specifics. 65% of Jewish people agreed that Donald Trump “supports the Israelis,” while only 34% agreed with Harris. (25% said Harris “backs the Palestinians,” while only 14% said the same thing about Trump.)
Other polls have shown that Israel is not very important to many American Jews, especially those who are not religious or belong to none of the community’s organizations. Concerns raised by the Democratic Party, like “democracy” or abortion, tend to get more votes from Jewish people.
