Just weeks before Election Day, CNN poll analyst Harry Enten uncovered further evidence that suggested the election would be leaning decisively in favor of former President Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump prefers to see this kind of movement in the middle of the electorate.”
As the Democrat sought to bolster support, Enten discovered that independent voters were abandoning Vice President Kamala Harris.
“You do realize what we know about independents? The electorate’s center. Joe Biden won these folks by 11 points the previous time, you go,” Enten said.
“If you go back to September 2024, a month ago, Kamala Harris was leading the independents by five points. But now, take a look at this. She is only two points ahead of Biden in the middle of the electorate, a crucial bloc, and nine points behind Biden at the end of the 2020 campaign.”
He continued by saying that concentrating on the battleground states exacerbates the argument against Kamala.
“What’s happening in the Great Lakes, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and that blue wall, those crucial battleground states, right?” Enten went on.
“The last time, Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump by a margin of five points. Observe our current situation,” he stated. “Up by a point, this is the kind of movement that Donald Trump prefers to see in the middle of the electorate. Naturally, that falls well within any error margin, isn’t it? It’s the movement, though. It’s the fad.”
Enten went on to note that over the course of presidential elections since 1952, candidates who won independents have won the election fifteen times, compared to just three for those who lost.
The pattern of independents supporting Trump is a very negative indication for Democrats, even though it is not certain.
