Vice President Kamala Harris told Al Sharpton of MSNBC that black men who don’t back her run for office are “misogynist.”
Harris’s insulting words are not likely to win over more men’s support, especially black men, who are not as supportive of her as other men.
The most recent national poll from NBC News shows that former President Donald Trump is ahead among guys by as much as 16 points. A recent poll by the Washington Post and Ipsos found that only 80% of black men back Harris. On the other hand, an NAACP poll found that only 1 in 4 people under the age of 50 supported Trump.
When Sharpton asked Harris if “some” men are “misogynist” if they don’t back her, Harris said, “I think that you are absolutely right.”
“Do you think that some of the resistance from some men, both black and white? Are you happy to see that most Americans have no problem at all going along with a woman?”
“On the point you made… I agree with you completely that there is a story going around about how much help we are getting from black guys that isn’t true,” she said.
Trump getting more support from black people has set off alarm bells for the Harris team. Her team came out with an “Agenda for Black Men” last week. On that list were legalizing marijuana, a new loan program, better banking choices for small businesses, better apprenticeship and mentorship programs, and better access to more health screenings.
Trump’s message to black people about the justice system is that it will be used against him. Trump thinks that some black voters might be able to connect with the idea of Biden using the law against him, pointing out that black people have been discriminated against in the past.
