Former President Donald Trump will speak later in May at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention.
“In response to the invitation and challenge from the Libertarian Party to speak at its National Convention and directly address issues stated by its members, President Donald J. Trump has answered,” a news statement from the party said.
According to the press release, the presumed GOP presidential contender for 2024 referred to libertarians as “some of the most independent and intellectual minds in” the country.
“To further freedom and liberty for every American, we must all work together, and a second Trump administration will do that. Many of my wonderful friends will be present at the Libertarian Event, and I am looking forward to speaking there. We all need to keep in mind that our objective is to unseat Crooked Joe Biden, the worst president in American history, by a wide margin. The election will not even be close if Libertarians join me and the Republican Party, since we share many Libertarian viewpoints. We cannot endure four more years of devastation, incapacity, and death. We will collaborate and succeed!”
Angela McArdle, chair of the Libertarian National Committee, stated that there is no “hidden scheme to make Trump our candidate” behind the decision to include Trump. “Our invitation to President Biden still stands,” she has stated.
According to the Libertarian Party platform, “we favor the repeal of all the laws creating ‘crimes’ without victims, like gambling, drugs use for medicinal or even recreational reasons, and consensual sex transactions.” The party also opposes the “administration of the death penalty by the state” and “supports the decriminalization of prostitution.”
