President Joe Biden was criticized for declaring in his State of the Union speech that he will cooperate with the CCP by Chris Smith, the chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (R-NJ).
He stated, “I have made it clear to President Xi that we desire competition, not confrontation,” and “I am dedicated to cooperating with China where it can promote American interests as well as benefit the globe.” During Biden’s address, he made references to competing with China and winning.
Smith said in an exclusive statement:
“President Biden’s pledge to cooperate with the CCP rather than the downtrodden Chinese people significantly supports the astounding savagery of Xi Jinping’s regime,” according to the report.
“As well as posing an existential military danger to its neighbors in the area and the United States, Xi and the CCP routinely execute, imprison, torture, persecute, and crush their own populace.”
In his address, Biden attempted to come out as harsh against Xi but instead gave a muddled ad-lib message. Suddenly, Biden yelled:
“Look. Let’s be clear: We should all work together to defeat China in the competition. Around the world, we are faced with significant obstacles. Democracies, however, have strengthened rather than weakened during the last two years. Autocracies have declined, not risen. Who of the world’s leaders would swap places with Xi Jinping? Name one for me! Name one for me!”
Only a few days prior to his State of the Union address, the Chinese government had flown a 200-foot surveillance balloon over the continental U.S. carrying a payload that was the size of a commercial airliner across sensitive military bases. After four days of unrestricted access, the balloon was shot down over the sea.
Smith demanded that the United States respond to the spy balloon “immediately and boldly.”
He noted in a statement made earlier this week:
“The Chinese Communist Party’s flagrant breach of our national sovereignty requires a robust response from the United States. We cannot continue to allow the Biden Administration to ignore the serious and increasing threat that the CCP poses to our national security and the standard of living of the American people.”
In reaction to the CCP’s “absurd human rights atrocities and its systematic economic espionage against the United States,” he urged Congress to enact his legislation, the China Trading Relations Act of 2023, which would revoke China’s trade advantages.”
“If China intends to have regular commercial relations with the United States, the Chinese government must first recognize our sovereignty and stop its heinous human rights abuses like ubiquitous religious persecution, transnational repression, forced organ trafficking and continuing genocide against Uyghurs as well as other Central Asian minorities,” he stated.
“Before it’s too late, the Biden Admin. must give up its illusion that the CCP wishes to collaborate with the United States,” he continued.
Since gaining control of the House in the elections held in November, House Republicans have upheld their commitment to hold China responsible. Several hearings on the danger from China were held this week.
Chairman of the House Financial Committee Patrick McHenry (R-NC) stated that China was neither a “ally nor a strategic partner” at the hearing. “They are a rival of ours and the biggest danger to American power abroad.”
